Café français

The Café Français is a gathering held at the West Baton Rouge Museum on the first Friday of every month, from 1-3 PM. The museum hosts this program as part of its cultural offerings, for those who speak French, are learning French, or simply support the French language and culture in Louisiana. Speakers of any dialect and any skill level are welcome. It is open to the public and free of charge. Each meeting features a topic to spur discussion.  There is always coffee and a little something sweet to eat, and music is often provided by those in attendance.

Le Jam, typically held on third Sundays from 3 - 5 pm at West Baton Rouge Museum is sponsored by the Baton Rouge Chapter of the Cajun French Music Association. The program welcomes all Cajun musicians, dancers and fans to this free monthly event.  The CFMA is dedicated to the promotion and preservation of our Cajun music, dance, language, and heritage.

Historical Happy Hour

Every third Friday, the drinks are on you and the history is on us! Come to the museum any time from 6:30 - 8 pm to explore exhibits and enjoy changing monthly entertainment such as trivia, live music, or lectures. Open to the public and free to attend.

Old Time Music Open Jam

Second Sunday open jam sessions held from 3 – 5 p.m. at the West Baton Rouge Museum welcome musicians with acoustic instruments to play old country tunes outdoors. The public is invited to bring a lawn chair to sit in the shade and sing along or simply enjoy the show. This program is open to the public and free to attend.

Enrichment Monday (postponed)

The West Baton Rouge Museum offers monthly training on various topics on Enrichment Mondays, held the 3rd Monday of each month.  Current and prospective volunteers, staffers, and interested community members are invited to attend.  Each month features a different topic that highlights a particular skill or activity.

Lunchtime Lecture

West Baton Rouge Museum periodically hosts Lunchtime Lectures to accompany permanent and changing exhibits. This program features guest lecturers including scholars, historians, artists and book authors to name a few who speak from Noon to 1 p.m. These presentations are free and open to the public with limited seating and audience members are always welcome to bring a brown bag lunch. When available, guest speaker presentations will be made available online.

Blues After School

Blues After School is a music education program that provides free instrument and Blues band instruction paired with cultural, historical, and arts related activities and lessons on industry best practices for middle school aged students and up. No prior music experience is necessary. Students choose a primary instrument to study and participate in one-hour group lessons on that instrument once per week followed by one hour of cultural, historical or arts enrichment, September 2022 to April 2023. We will meet on four Fridays per month from 4 – 6 p.m. The program will provide loan instruments during class time to participating students who do not already have their own. Students who already own an instrument should bring the instrument to class.
