Academy training is open to boys and girls age 8 – 8th Grade who want additional training and games for the purposes of developing for future competitive play. Training will be directed by a licensed coach. Games will be few, but it is intended to give the opportunity for knowledge and skills development that will help the player.

Registration

  • The Academy is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 8th Grade
  • Cost is $150/child, which includes a uniform shirt, shorts, and socks. 
  • Participants must provide shin guards which must be worn under socks.
  • For footwear, soccer cleats are recommended, especially for ages 8 & up.  Sneakers are ok.  Baseball cleats (or anything else with a toe cleat) are not permitted for soccer.

Training

  • Tactical Training: Development focus: attacking and defending as a team in all parts of the field, movement without the ball
  • Technical Training: Development Focus: Individual skills, 1v1, 2v1

August Training

  • Begins August 6th
  • Tactical Training: Tuesday/Thursday 6:00 – 7:30 PM – Addis Myhand Park
  • Tactical Training: Sunday 4:30 – 6:00 PM – Port Allen Soccer Complex
  • Technical Training: Wednesday 6:00 – 7:30 PM – Addis Myhand Park

September & October Training

  • Tactical Training: Sunday 4:30 – 6:00 PM – Port Allen Soccer Complex
  • Technical Training: Day TBD 6:00 – 7:30 PM – Addis Myhand Park
  • Training Complete: Week of October 14th

Intra-Program Games

  • Location: Soccer Complex in Port Allen
  • Approximately 4 games will be scheduled for recreational match days.

Coaching Curriculum


Program Director is John Alexander who has US Soccer’s Class E Coaching License and additional Grassroots training. He has coached high school, middle school, indoor, and recreational soccer for the last 10 years. Other adult coaches may include those with coaching certification and/or referee license. There is a potential for assistance from youth who have previous competitive or academy training. 

Participant Expectations

  • Wear the proper jersey and shin guards under socks.
  • Watches and jewelry are not permitted. This includes earring, necklaces, bracelets, etc. The child will be asked to remove any jewelry for their own safety.
  • All players will be in the same color, a scrimmage vest will be used as needed
  • Bring your own ball and water
  • Do your best to make each event and notify the program director of Saturday's absence in advance.

Please be flexible. This is the second offering of an academy league in WBR.  Compared to last fall, the training schedule has been shifted to put more training in August and less after the recreational seasons.  Games will not be intentionally scheduled for every recreational matchday.
